Falls are the number one cause of injury and hospital visits due to trauma among people age 65 and older. And most falls occur in the home. Our fall prevention program involves three main strategies: balance and gait training, muscle strengthening, and environmental/home modifications. We perform a functional assessment of the patient evaluating for the ability to safely perform such tasks as being able to negotiate stairs or rising from a low sofa. We also assess the home environment identifying fall risks and making recommendations for eliminating them. We work closely with doctors and family members to ensure that every patient receives safe and compassionate care.
